I spent the first half of my life exploring the greater world beyond my upbringing in South Carolina, and sharing those enriching cultural experiences with those around me close to home. Always living with one foot in and the other outside of the Deep South, my attention is constantly drawn toward our social environments which make us all so different, and, yet, the humanity which binds us all. This ideal impacts my life greatly both personally - living life in a mixed race family with all the new connections, and sometimes difficulty that brings; and professionally, embarking on a mission to solve end stage organ failure in some 50 countries through transplantation. Organ donation is a tremendously selfless, humane and heroic act, and I stay quite busy lately focused on improved preservation and modern medicine breakthroughs made possible through the gift of life. It is a fascinating space and so much lies on the horizon! Mostly, I am just so thankful for all you in BAP. My life is made less messy (and sometimes probably more) by all of you - but you definitely make me, and my life, that much better.

I'm a two time Emmy award winning TV producer, journalist and writer. I spent the past decade making educational shows for the broadcast networks in the US. I've developed and produced factual programs for National Geographic, Discovery, PBS, ABC, NBC, CBS and many others. I started life at the BBC in the UK then crossed the pond to become the first Brit on air TV reporter in America. Outside work, I observe daily the extent to which a three year old can have both parents wrapped around her little finger, play speed chess with idiotically fast time controls and acquire more guitars and obscure stringed instruments than I can reasonably play in a lifetime.

Tony has nearly 30 years experience representing clients in the internet, communications, arts and entertainment industries, helping clients with transactional, regulatory, policy, intellectual property, and litigation matters, serving as outside general counsel to many clients. Tony began practicing communications law just before the internet became a “thing”, regulating the Minnesota telecommunications industry for four years. From rural broadband deployment to data privacy to net neutrality to 911 and 811, there are few issues Tony hasn't handled for his clients. The only thing Tony's done longer than internet and communications law is perform music. A former All-American high school saxophone player and self-taught bass player, Tony's bands have recorded and released two albums, and his current band, The Long Goodbyes just dropped its first album. Having “paid his dues” and “learned the hard way” in the industry, Tony incorporates that experience into his arts and entertainment law practice.

I joined BAP in 2002 as an NYC-based husband and father of two small girls, working for JPMorgan as an investment banker. 20+ years and a series of life/career twists and turns later, I'm back! I currently live in Atlanta and have recently returned to JPMC after an extended period in both client facing and risk roles with a regional bank. BAP's original attraction was its open, constructive forum and Fellows'; intense discussions about our shared geo-political, economic and social concerns. It's always about learning. My friends confirm the continued existence of our “organized serendipity,” and I hope to put by business and educational experience (West Point w/graduate degrees in law and business) back into the mix.
I am a partner at the law firm of Fredrikson & Byron. I help entrepreneurs commercialize brilliant (and not-so-brilliant) ideas and represent tech and life sciences companies in their strategic collaborations and transactions. I am Chair of the firm's Recruiting and Hiring Committee, responsible for interviewing and hiring law students from across the country. I enjoy mentoring college students, law students and young attorneys and engaging in initiatives to increase and support diversity in the legal profession. On the side, I take on passion projects and help manage OMEED, a small non-profit organization that I founded with my family. OMEED provides humanitarian relief, healthcare and education in Southeast Asia where, in (much) younger years, I spent time as a Fulbright scholar. At the center of my universe are my husband, Amber, our college student twins, our family and friends, and Yoshi, our new Great Dane rescue puppy. We embrace opportunities to travel, hike, cook, eat, spend time with friends, host gatherings, and support political candidates and social justice causes aimed at creating a safer and more humane world.
Author, occasional government official, and director of a research charity. Lately I mostly work teaching strategy to government officials, saving the UK steel industry, and cooking interesting dinners. Very excited to see everyone at BAPlanta, and to welcome my first BAP baby, the excellent Reema. I've got lots of random interests and hobbies, so talk to me about anything!

I retired from being the senior partner in a Primary Care General Practice in Oxford late last year, after 30 years or so of looking after a fair few generations of patients, tutoring and training students and junior doctors, working in Sexual Health and quite a lot of other stuff. Now properly self-employed and working, living, loving and caring between Oxford and Yorkshire and various other locations, looking forward to the future. Wishing all in BAP well.

Eric Johnson is a seasoned local government executive with a knack for turning bureaucratic chaos into (mostly) functioning order. As the head honcho at the Fox River Water Reclamation District, he's well-versed in the less glamorous side of public service — like making sure the, uh, literal crap flows exactly where it should. When he's not busy protecting the environment through innovative wastewater management, Eric is a fierce advocate for people with Multiple Sclerosis (spoiler alert: he's part of the club). In a previous life, he served as an elected official and dabbled in the trenches of local, state, and federal politics, which means he's seen the good, the bad, and the dysfunctional. When not knee-deep in municipal matters, you';ll find him championing MS causes or balancing his work life with quality time for friends and family. Proudly calling himself the “Great Indoorman,” Eric prefers tailored suits, overstuffed furniture, and a fine beverage (or more) — perfect for sharing ideas or swapping stories.

I know I am getting old when I talk to graduates and they were born after I started working for the company. Lots of different roles, loads of great experiences and a few different countries too. Most recently returned from working in Saudi Arabia for a couple of years as the Finance Director for Typhoon. The profile picture was taken as I hosted one of those dreaded Zoom quizzes during lock down in Saudi. Might be the plaid from Seattle if you look closely. Now back in the UK in the role of Finance Director for the US Programmes business within the Air sector. I live in the North West of England with my wife and two children. We have a cat we see every now and then but he treats the place like a hotel. Love all food, many drinks and laughing. Follow Newcastle United and love most sports. Might even do some sport every now and then.

Currently, he serves as the Vice-President of The Madison Collection - leading the growth of his family's ethically produced luxury products for the hospitality/spa industries by uniting green luxury with partnerships that give back to communities, such as water filter donations for potable water in marginalized areas. I am a writer, investigative journalist and former academic, best known for lifting the lid on the UK Parliamentary expenses scandal. I have published three non-fiction books: The Revolution Will be Digitised, The Silent State and Your Right to Know. I am currently finishing my novel about a female guru/politician on a mission to make nature sacred again. I have been director of the MA Investigation Journalism course at City, University of London where I was a Professor and also taught as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University in New York. What unites both my investigative journalism and my fiction is my interest in power. Who has it. How they got it. What they do with it. I want no less than to transform culture so we once again value nature and the feminine.
I prosecute murders in New York City, which can be as intense as it sounds, so I do my best to even that out with plenty of lap-swimming, park-running, theatre-going, and rooftop cocktail bar sipping in my off time. My latest personal goal is traveling to as many new places as possible - so please fill me in on any hidden gems! BAP will always be incredibly special to me, not just for having expanded my world, but for introducing me to such extraordinary individuals, including some of my favorite people in this world (you know who you are).
I am a performance improvement catalyst, specialising in helping people navigate difficult, challenging, crucial or high stakes conversations, especially in the context of sales performance, business development and leadership. I work internationally with teams and individuals in large corporates and governmental organisations, as well as smaller firms and non-profits. More specifically, I create and facilitate realistic, immersive, role play based simulations designed to enable experiential learning & development and assessment in these arenas. I used to be a corporate lawyer, but moved into business development and also built a niche in corporate role play. Just before becoming a BAP Fellow, I was appointed as New Hampshire's (honorary) UK Commercial Consul. I love producing events (especially for BAP) particularly events exploring the future through the lens of Sci-Fi in film & TV; I’ve been privileged to do several of these at the London Science Museum. And lastly, I’m also a multi-instrumentalist.

Style is the art of visualizing what words alone can’t express. Informed by years as a classically trained dancer and industry apprentice, Hollie Mae's style is known for its fluidity between commercial savvy and editorial complexity, and her work ethic is recognized for being highly disciplined. Her talents have provided an enviable decade of industry experience, culminating in her acclaimed business, HMStyling, through which she provides styling, creative direction, and consultation. Forever a passionate supporter of ongoing education, she's served as a mentor and teacher to aspiring stylists and artists across the country with hosted speaking engagements and seminars in New York and Los Angeles. But perhaps most importantly, as a stylist, as a purveyor of ideas that can only be seen, her most profound achievement is the co-founding of Project Healthy Smile, a non profit dedicated to oral health education and building sustainable programs in developing countries, resulting in the most universal and unspoken expression of an idea: a smile.

I have recently returned to work for my beloved city, London. Having spent the last decade working as part of our national Government on health and care policy, tackling inequalities women and minorities face working and progressing in our national institutions, I’ve come back to work at a regional level at the Greater London Authority, leading the Mayor's work on health, education and young people. My career has been in the health and care sector, working at almost every level possible, from my early days managing a busy A&E department in a major London hospital, right through to working at an international level very recently overseeing the UK's Overseas Territories preparations for Brexit. I’m passionate about, well so much… Family, friends, my community and volunteering as a youth mentor all shape me, and as cheesy as it sounds, make me want to make a better world. This is why I love being part of BAP so much - it's what all of us want, we all have a million different ideas and ways of getting there.
After missing the past two conferences, I am back! Since the pandemic conference: two small children (4 and 2). Moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, where I became involved locally on the County's Anti-Hate Task Force after being spit on outside a Dunkin’ Donuts and told to “go back to where you’re from” – he didn’t mean my house down the street. Now I am a gubernatorial appointee to the Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board, the Maryland Advisory Council on Health and Wellness, and the Maryland Assistive Technology Loan Program Board of Directors, which helps families with disabilities qualify for low-interest loans to purchase equipment that will help them live, work, and learn more independently and equitably. My day job runs government affairs for SecurityScorecard, a cybersecurity company focused on supply chain risk management. My now-retired free-range organic chicken farmer folks and siblings live in Lilburn, Georgia.

"The person who says 'that's impossible!' shouldn't interrupt someone finishing the job." (an old family saying*) My Job: Impact Counsel lawyer, financing community-scale clean energy projects. My Jams: Functional ceramics, and all things food. "Impossible" things in my life: 1. A potter with a degree in ceramics, writing climate policy for the President of the United States. 2. Winning elections in a conservative, heavily Lutheran and Catholic Republican legislative district as Jewish Democrat of Byelorussian descent. 3. Brits and Americans finding a way to bond despite speaking different common languages. What's next? Who knows. Maybe a licensed tour guide in Jerusalem, drawing stories out of millenia-old rocks and pipe and roads. Getting my hands dirty more often - in the garden and in the pottery studio. Growing a great tomato. Or at least trying. And that's the fun! (*or maybe Confuscious??)

At lunch today, my BAP buddy Tom remarked that it's badass to announce you’re retired when people think you’re too young for it. Am I?! Not sure. So here goes: I’m capping off a creative and rewarding Hollywood career with lots of traveling, cooking, writing, celebrating, community-building, doing advocacy work and producing life skills retreats for young people in need. Just because you leave work doesn’t mean the compulsion to work leaves you. I am very busy. I am also very rich. Which is to say: rich in peace of mind, in curiosity, in books, and in music. In a long, loving marriage. In the joy of bringing beloved fam--some biological-- together. In hope, in home and in health. In immersive experiences, especially soulful conversation. I dance out of bed in the morning and drift off blanketed in gratitude at night. I want for nothing, except time and health, and until one cancels the other, I’m gonna live it up.

My first job outside the classroom was working with Atlanta’s first Black mayor, Maynard Jackson, on international relations and helped manage the city’ growing global presence. Later, as chair of the Fulton County Commission, I focused on international business strategies. In 1984, I joined the inaugural class of BAP. Over the years, I’ve helped host conferences in Atlanta and New Orleans. Since 2004, I’ve served as president of UNCF, raising over $3 billion and supporting more than 110,000 students. I’m passionate about education reform and strengthening historically Black colleges and universities to foster opportunities for future generations. As BAP alumni, all we have to do is work together to ensure that BAP is sustainable and strong. That’s why I am leaving the sidelines and joining the fray again. The British American Project was a good idea, and ensuring that it continues is our responsibility. Together, we can do this!

Even though she has a Ph.D in international development, her real achievement in life was finding her cousin Joe Twyman in BAP. Steve's 4th grade teacher, Ms. Halvorsen, was once quoted as saying & Steve has outstanding potential. There was a time when he was an avid outdoorsman and world traveler. He's hiked in the Nepal Himalayas, sea-kayaked in Patagonia and worked as a cocktail bartender in Queenstown, New Zealand. He and his wife now have a son and two daughter's Guild of America in 2006 as an Assistant Director and has credits on films like Transformers, The Bucket List, Hangover II + III, and an Eddie Murphy comedy that he'd like to personally apologize for. In 2021 he got his first two credits as a co-producer and his childlike excitement over getting a chair with his name on it surprised no one. He has a degree in business from UNC-Chapel Hill and bleeds Carolina Blue. He is excited to welcome BAP to his hometown of Atlanta and promises that even though he may not be visible, he's definitely participating in all events and not missing any part of it. Shout out to Jody & the BAPlanta Team for all their hard work! #GCATforLife

After 36 years of practice, I started my own international law firm in 2014. Recently, much of our work has focused on Africa, and I have made several trips to the continent. And just lately, my life-list of countries visited has at last topped 100. I'm also a professor of human rights and constitutional law at Johns Hopkins-SAIS. To try to ensure that the next generation resists current efforts to eviscerate the international legal regime, I serve as Chair of the International Law Students Association. And in an effort to make my personal and professional commitment to the rule of law concrete, I represent a man who has spent more than half his life on Death Row in Alabama. BAP has been important to me for nearly half of my own life. As I do each year, I again look forward to the welcome recharging of batteries that Conference provides.
After starting her career as a financial journalist in the publications (and pubs) of London in the last century, Storme has spent the past 23 years inside the Washington Beltway as a tax policy and government relations expert. She recently left Deloitte's Washington National Tax practice and is currently living the beach bum life with her husband, Joe. They split their time between DC and (increasingly) Oceanside, CA. In the time Storme has reclaimed since finishing her terms last year as BAP US chair, Storme has added Hawaiian dance to her other hobbies of swimming (fast, but not as fast as Joe Twynam) and travel. She is the founder of what is arguably DC's most politically diverse co-ed book club, now in its 22nd year. And she can wiggle her nose.

BAP Bio: (meant to be funny) Tania Tetlow has a gig being the first woman and non-priest president of Jesuit universities, starting with Loyola New Orleans and now at Fordham in New York. She revels in the constant excitement of being a university president at this moment in history. Her hobby is risking public humiliation by singing the national anthem at a Yankees game, giving a commencement speech to chanting protestors, and being grilled by reporters. She is mom to Lucy, who has shockingly become 12-years old, and to her stepson Noah, now a sophomore at Fordham, using his Scottish accent to great effect. And she still goes home to New Orleans for all major holidays including Jazz Fest.
Born and raised in Atlanta and shaped by world travel, Taylor is a nerdy Southern American food and wine entrepreneur. She completed her undergraduate degree at an ivy-covered college, whose proximity to wineries lured her into love of the grape. After getting her paper, she enrolled at Ecôle Hotelière de Genève in Switzerland, and spent the earlier part of her career as a chef while also diving into wine. For ten years, Taylor crafted a spunky, syndicated wine column but food continued to capture her heart. In 2011, she moved to northern California to work in the wine industry, then vegetable gardening and plant-forward recipe development became hobbies. To pay the bills, she nabbed an MBA and owns a digital marketing agency, Cork & Fork Digital Media, which helps small- to mid-sized food and beverage brands pimp their wares online. Ask her about the new podcast she's developing: Food Medicine.

I'm thrilled to be returning to this year's British American Project. Joan Harrison so wonderfully introduced me to BAP many years ago and each event I've attended has been life affirming. Most of my career has been in the television business. Back in the late 1980's I began in Los Angeles, at ABC Entertainment and then had wonderful roles with Warner Bros. (ER), CBS (EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND), Miramax TV (PROJECT GREENLIGHT), and Discovery Networks (PLANET EARTH). Recently I've enjoyed working with Virtuoso Travel and spearheading the partnership with Saudi Arabia to help open the country to tourism and travel.
